The job

This was the last of five houses we have floored in a small courtyard development in Parbold. The brief was the whole house: real wood throughout the ground floor and carpet throughout upstairs, so the owners could move in to finished floors in every room.

What went down

  • Downstairs: Ted Todd Husk herringbone in every room. Husk is an engineered European oak with a mid-tone, characterful grain, brushed for texture and finished in a hardened oil. Laid in herringbone, the pattern runs unbroken from room to room, which is what makes an open-plan ground floor feel like one space.
  • Upstairs: Cormar carpets throughout.

How it ran

The customer saw it through from first visit to final clean-up:

  • Site visits. We came out to see the house before anything was ordered.
  • Advice on flooring. We advised on what would work on each floor of the house: the Husk herringbone downstairs and Cormar carpets upstairs.
  • A plan. The order of work was agreed up front, so everyone knew what was happening in which room and when.
  • Fitting. Wood downstairs, carpets upstairs.
  • Clean-up. The house was left clean and ready to live in.

From the first day on site to the last, the whole job took nine days.

What the customer said

The customer was delighted with the service from start to finish, from the first site visit and the advice on flooring right through to the plan, the fitting and the clean-up.

The thing they mentioned most was Neil. He is a cabinet maker by trade, and the customer loved that, because it shows in the detail: the way a herringbone meets a door frame, a skirting or a step is where a pattern floor is won or lost.
